The Day Before my Travels

Tonight I'm feeling anxious, frazzled, and uncertain. Your out-pouring of support has been amazing, but I am soooo apprehensive. I am washing clothes and packing my suitcase now. Even with all of the uncertainty, I feel like this is a rites of passage, and this trip coming a month-or-so before my senior year at Howard could not be more poetic.

I think the spiritual guidance I so long for is there awaiting me. Please excuse the randomness of this blog, it is very much so stream of consciousness.

I have been reading Richard Wright's, Black Power, a critique and objective narration of the months leading up to the Ghanian Independence Movement. It has made me want to go and do research on the ins and outs of Wright's stay in Ghana.

Tomorrow, I will leave for BWI at 7:45 AM and depart for Ghana at 11:45 (ET) on a ten hour flight. I hope to upload lots of pictures of our departure and such for all to see.

I can't wait to hear from all of you.

Ava, have a safe flight and I hope to see you there! Do post your itinerary please so that we can connect in Ghana. I arrive in Accra on July 19th and will head straight to Cape Coast. Peace sis.

Ava,
Just spoke with your mom, my baby sis, to learn that you are in the air, somewhere over the Atlantic at this very moment! My heart pounds with excitement and anticpatiion with you.
Stay ever present, fully into the NOW...not to worry about or hover in the past; neither jump ahead and project about what may be up ahead (or impose your wishes on what the road may hold). It's for you to witness as it unfolds and as you become a participant within it. Don't miss the now. Someone once said "when a butterfly flutters its wings, that breeze is felt across the ocean". So are you, your presence felt my dear love.
Peace and Blessings,
"Unk" Ernest

Beautiful Cousin,

You're home! God is blessing you so...make the most of opportunities, like these, that come your way. Opportunities, blessings really, that will ultimately shape you and grow you in your purpose...in your quest to learn and share the truth and "good news" about our culture, our people, our ways.

You continue to astound me with your confidence and grace...walk tall in Ghana; open your heart, your mind, and soul to this experience. You will be changed!

Looking forward to hearing updates. I can't wait to visit "our home" some other time, in the future, with you. I love you "little sis". Keep up the great, important work...you can and will help "change" things for the better through your talent, wisdom and gifts.

Missing and loving you,

Anyika

Hi Ava -

Congratulations you made it. Look around it's got to be beautiful there....When I was on the Ivory Coast of The Gambia and Senegal some 10yrs ago I was taken abreast by the kindness and giving of our brothers and sisters. This is truly a time to learn, enjoy and make new friends.

Post some pics if you can.

Warm Regards,
Chavis
